On December 17, 2024, an interactive lunch lecture on the topic of "Gender equality and sexism in STEM subjects" will take place in digital format. The event is aimed at students, academics, university representatives and anyone interested in discussing gender equality in STEM subjects.
Women are still underrepresented in STEM subjects. This is particularly evident in engineering and computer science right from the start of studies, while in mathematics and natural sciences a gap opens up in favor of male scientists with increasing academic qualifications.
Dr. Monique Ritter and Bernadette Rohlf present key findings from their publication "Gender (in)equality in academia? Un/equalities in dealing with sexist practices in STEM subjects", which deals with gender-specific barriers and patriarchal structures in academia. With Dr. Sahra Dornick from TU Berlin, these findings will be placed in a larger context in order to develop possible solutions.
The event offers space for the exchange of personal experiences and perspectives. Registration is possible until December 16, 2024, the Zoom link will be sent in advance by e-mail.
