About the TRAWOS Institute

  • Goals
    • Realization of social science research and practical projects in the context of demographic, economic-technical, social and cultural change, especially in peripheral rural areas and regions.
    • Linking research and shaping practice in the form of applied research and consulting as well as through knowledge transfer.
    • Linking research and teaching in the context of research seminars, research internships, lecture series and theses.
    • Creation and promotion of a public space for discourse on issues of regional development, civil society involvement and democratic political culture (e.g. through publications, events and workshops).

    • Innovative regional development in Upper Lusatia with a focus on demography, migration, integration, gender and governance.
    • Urbanity in medium-sized towns and new concepts of rurality in peripheral areas.
    • Socio-ecological transformation and its management.
    • Social, political and civic inclusion and participation as well as democratic cultural development.
    • Cross-border aspects of working, living, housing and cooperation under post-communist conditions.
    • European integration problems in the border triangle.
