Cultures and culture in general are like a constantly changing river, a perpetual cycle of the emergence and decline of societies and their self-reflections in language, art and the sciences. Nevertheless, it is possible to distinguish and differentiate between larger epochs and/or phases, each characterised by specific cultural patterns (memes, symbols, values, norms, everyday and deep-rooted cultural habits, techniques, economic and social forms, etc.). Conventional modern social and cultural history or philosophy usually distinguishes three epochs that diverge sharply in their cultural patterns: the pre-modern, the modern and the post-modern. For some years now, however, with a view to the present and the future, a further differentiation and corresponding terminology has been developing: metamodernism and the metamodern.
New cultures, including the Metamodern, are barely visible at first, as images, words and even the sciences are dominated by the habits of previous cultures. It is therefore worthwhile to trace the traces of the new and make them visible.
The research project aims to bring the international academic discussion on the Metamodern into focus for the Lusatia region and to derive from this possible new research and practical approaches for regional transformation processes.
The project is funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism.
This initiative is co-financed by taxpayers’ money in accordance with the budget approved by the members of the Saxon State Parliament.
