About the TRAWOS-Institute

  • Objectives
    • Implementation of social science research and practical projects in the context of demographic, economic, technical, social, and cultural change, especially in peripheral rural areas and regions.
    • Linking research and creative practice in the form of applied research and consulting, as well as through knowledge transfer.
    • Linking research and teaching in the context of research seminars, research internships, lecture series, and theses.
    • Creation and promotion of a public forum for discussion on issues of regional development, civic engagement, and democratic political culture (including through publications, events, and workshops).
  • Central Issues
    • Innovative regional development in Upper Lusatia with a focus on demography, migration, integration, gender, and governance.
    • Urbanity in medium-sized towns and new concepts of rurality in peripheral areas.
    • Social-ecological transformation and its management.
    • Social, political, and civil society inclusion and participation, as well as democratic cultural development.
    • Cross-border aspects of work, life, housing, and cooperation under post-communist conditions.
    • European integration problems in the border triangle.
