“Lusatia is more complicated than we think”

Workshop on the construction of identity before and during structural change

Begin 03. November 2026 - 10:00 Uhr
End 03. November 2026 - 18:00 Uhr
City Krabatmühle Schwarzkollm

As diagnoses of crisis multiply, the challenge of social cohesion is being increasingly emphasised. Regional identity is seen as playing a central role in this regard – both as a stabilising factor and as a potential anchor for processes of transformation which – one might at least assume – can only succeed if they manage to engage with the citizens affected by them. This applies in particular to Lusatia. Not only is the region marked by points of friction due to its varied historical developments and regional characteristics, but it is also currently being redefined by structural change and must, in turn, redefine itself in the process. The workshop will discuss both various thematic, disciplinary and conceptual aspects of (regional) identity(ies) in Lusatia and questions regarding how to deal practically with the challenges posed by current and future transformation processes.
