In recent years, the relationship between art/culture and social transformation has increasingly become a focus of research in the fields of literature, cultural studies and the social sciences. This raises not only the question of how literary texts, artistic forms and media discourses depict, accompany and reflect the various processes and experiences of transformation, but also to what extent they sometimes even initiate and drive them forward (or, conversely, slow them down and block them). The Lausitz appears to be an exemplary space in which the (political, social, economic, technical, etc.) upheavals and transformations of the 20th and 21st centuries are particularly concentrated. In, through and with it, the (artistic) perspectives on and manifestations of ‘major transformations’ can be explored paradigmatically, whilst simultaneously being placed within the context of the question of life in the Anthropocene. What ideas and practices of transformation are and have been produced in and by literature, the arts and the media, using the Lausitz as an example, and what knowledge of transformation is and has been developed and conveyed in each case?
